What does a novel have to do with an animated children's movie? Nothing, but you can watch Wall E on Netflix or purchase it from Amazon whether you read the book or not. In fact, if you aren't interested in watching the movie but would like to learn more about what happens after Wall-E finally sets Earth free from the detritus of humanity, this article is for you. Wall-E is a charming tale of a robot who starts out as a garbage collector and ends up saving humanity while dealing with some serious existential crisis. If you've seen the movie, you know how it ends, but what happens? The book takes place after the movie.
The book follows the adventures of Eva, Wall-E's love interest and who comes to Earth in a pod to find him. We discover that humans have been brought back from space and Star Command helps rebuild their planet and keeps us free of contaminants. It's a pretty happy ending for all except for one thing: Earth has become totally dependent on robot labor and no one works or has ever worked outside of their robots. No one even knows what work is anymore. The story ends with the last of the humans having to become self-reliant again. We won't know what that looks like until the sequel (if there is one). This book is a good read for children and parents alike. The pictures in the book are gorgeous, and the story has plenty of laughs. It's not so much for adults who have already seen Wall-E , but it's good for both kids and their parents to read together. If you enjoyed this animated movie, try watching "Moana" on Amazon Prime or Netflix. It's another family-friendly movie that follows a young girl who sets out to save her people after being urged by her hero, Maui. If you liked Wall-E , you will love Moana .
